“Do everything with a mind that lets go. Don’t cling to praise, success, or anything else. Let go a little, and you’ll find a little peace. Let go a lot, and you’ll find a lot of peace. Let go completely, and you’ll find complete peace.”
— Ajahn Chah
We do not attain peace by force—it arises when we accept and let go. The mind creates suffering by grasping—holding onto ideas, people, emotions, or objects. When we resist, we struggle. But when we accept things as they are, without attachment, we naturally find peace.
A simple mantra can help guide us, such as “Caring, Acceptance, Surrender, and Peace.” These words help concentrate the mind and bring us back to the present, reminding us that true freedom comes not from control but from release.
Sometimes, letting go isn’t easy. The mind resists, seeking reasons to hold on and justify attachment. Yet, if we sit with this grasping and resistance, watching it without judgment, we begin to see its weight. Over time, a natural acceptance and surrender happens. Through caring, surrender and acceptance, peace is no longer something to seek—it simply is.
Peace comes from understanding the grasping mind and how it creates suffering, acceptance through insight, and a natural relinquishing or letting go. The more we resist, the more we suffer. When we stop grasping—whether it’s for control, outcomes, or attachments—we create space for peace to arise naturally.
Let go a little, and you’ll find a little peace.
Let go a lot, and you’ll find a lot of peace.
Let go completely, and you’ll find complete peace.
